In a significant diplomatic engagement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscored the pivotal role of technology and innovation in the blossoming partnership between India and Singapore. He revealed that the two nations have laid out plans to deepen cooperation in burgeoning fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and other pioneering digital technologies.
Strengthening Digital Connectivity
Addressing a press gathering alongside Singaporean incumbent Lawrence Wong, PM Modi lauded the seamless integration of digital platforms like UPI and PayNow as prime examples of successful connectivity. He emphasized the importance of revisiting and enhancing the Bilateral Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement as well as the Free Trade Agreement with ASEAN within defined timelines to bolster these ties.
Expanding the Space Horizon
Significantly, the agreement in the space sector marks a new chapter in scientific collaboration, according to PM Modi. He announced plans for the next India-Singapore Hackathon—a crucible of talent and innovation for the youth of both countries. The participation of 13 additional Indian banks connecting to these platforms illustrates the expanding digital footprint.
Cooperation Beyond Traditions
The PM highlighted Singapore’s integral role in India’s ‘Act East’ policy, aiming to reinforce peace and stability across the Indo-Pacific arena. Referring to the partnership as “special” due to the 60th anniversary celebrations, he pointed out that the ties transcend mere diplomacy, aiming for peace, progress, and prosperity rooted in shared values.
A Vision for Mutual Growth
Prime Minister Modi concluded by addressing the grave issue of terrorism, praising Singapore’s support in India’s ongoing battle against the menace. He called upon global humanitarian nations to collaborate against terrorism. This extends to a new direction in research and development efforts, notably with the Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership Agreement and a National Centre of Excellence for Skilling in Chennai, focusing on advanced manufacturing.
A Partnership Rooted in Shared Values
Expressing deep gratitude towards Singapore for its steadfast support in combating terrorism and fostering economic growth, PM Modi remarked that the partnership symbolizes a shared vision not just in traditional sectors but in new-age fields as well.
As emphasized by PM Modi, the collaborative spirit between India and Singapore is not just about agreements and trade, but also about a profound shared commitment to innovation and mutual enhancement. This, according to Ommcom News, sets a robust foundation for the future of bilateral relations.
