From Drones to Global Innovation: Transformative Training Ignites Ondo Youths
The Owo Council's drone construction program empowers youths, addressing security challenges and inspiring global tech involvement.

A Vision for the Future
The locality of Owo in Ondo State, Nigeria, has become a beacon of innovation with a bold step towards involving its youth in technology and security. Marking World Youth Skills Day 2025, the Owo Council has initiated a comprehensive program to train 123 students on drone construction. This initiative, facilitated by the Owo Local Government Area in conjunction with King’s College African Leadership Centre, is more than just training – it’s a gateway to the future.
Bridging the Gap with Innovation
Under the visionary guidance of Chairman Tope Omolayo, this program aims to equip participants with competencies in Artificial Intelligence and robotics, key digital skill areas that promise a vibrant career landscape. Omolayo emphasized the United Nations’ mission to equip young minds with skills that serve as co-creators in crafting a fairer digital world. According to New Telegraph, participants will soon have the opportunity to flaunt their newly acquired skills at international tech events across the United Kingdom and Canada.
Tackling Security Through Technology
Owo faces its share of security challenges, vividly remembered with events like the tragic 2015 armed robbery attacks and the 2022 massacre at St. Francis Catholic Church. However, through drone technology and GPS tracking, the council hopes to arm local youths with solutions to enhance security measures across Owo’s expansive terrains. “Harnessing space technology could be the key to mitigating insecurity in our forests and rural communities,” Omolayo pointed out, encapsulating a vision for using tech as a tool for peace.
Celebrating Youth Innovators
The training has further highlighted young talents like Adeleye Toeheed Olatunbosun and Eriyo Merit Esoye, who were recognized with the 2025 World Youth Skills Day awards, having shown exceptional prowess in their creations. This recognition not only honors their hard work but also ignites a flame of inspiration for their peers, inspiring a generation to forge new paths in the realms of technology.
The Call of the Future
Emphasizing this year’s theme focused on youth empowerment through artificial intelligence and digital skills, Mrs. Bolajoko Taiwo Olapeju-Ayeni from the King’s College African Leadership Centre left participants with one clear message: use your newfound skills to become trailblazing leaders in technological innovation. Her words resonated with determination and hope.
A Horizon of Possibilities
The Owo Council’s groundbreaking program is not merely an educational endeavor; it’s a transformational experience aspiring to weave a brighter, secure future for Ondo State and beyond. By lighting the path for young innovators, it paints a vivid picture of a future where empowerment and technology walk hand in hand toward global collaboration and peace.
