Scientists Share the Most Detailed Geological Map of the Moon
Chinese scientists have published the most detailed geological map of the Moon to date, with even the smallest craters visible on it. The map's scale is 1: 2,500,000.
The researchers analyzed all the data on the lunar surface collected by space agencies over the past 15 years. The surface of the Moon is divided into various colored zones. They show the evolution of the Earth satellite's crust, the effects of celestial bodies impacting it, as well as magmatic processes and volcanic activity.
The map also presents a modern illustration of impact basins and craters of different periods, the distribution of 17 rock types, and 14 types of different structures.
The map may be used free of charge for non-commercial purposes, including scientific research and the popularization of science, provided that it is properly cited.
