Campus Revolution: VTU's Industry Integration to Transform Student Learning
In an electrifying advancement that blends academia with industry, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in Belagavi has launched a pioneering “Industry Inside the Campus” initiative. This groundbreaking effort is set to revolutionize how students approach learning, marrying conventional education with real-world applications to sculpt a new generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.
A New Era for Students
At the heart of this initiative is the Visvesvaraya Research and Innovation Foundation (VRIF), designed to bring industries like drone technology, IoT, and electric vehicle innovation directly onto the university campus. Not only does this provide students with invaluable hands-on experience, but it also underscores VTU’s commitment to preparing students for an ever-evolving job market. As stated in The Hans India, it’s a unique setup aimed at nurturing both employees and future employers.
Bridging the Skill Gap
VTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. S. Vidyashankar emphasizes the importance of this initiative: “We aim to bridge the skill gap by providing students with immediate, tangible experience.” Centers such as the Schneider Acceleration Centre and the Electric Vehicle Lab serve as rapid innovation hubs where students receive mentorship from industry leaders.
Student Success Stories
Among the beneficiaries is Saras Aerospace, a young startup within the campus, specializing in cutting-edge drone technology. Co-founder Brijesh Kumar Koparde expresses gratitude for the collaborative environment. “We are not just teaching drone technology but equipping students with the tools essential for testing these devices,” he shares. The results are impressive, with the company having delivered over 200 drones nationwide.
Students like Rajat Hanshate and Swastik Hegde are already reaping the benefits. Rajat shares his journey of developing an Unmanned Ground Vehicle, gaining immersive experience from 3D modeling to sensor integration. Swastik echoes this sentiment, highlighting his work on PCB design and IoT sensor integration, opening doors to endless possibilities.
The Road Ahead
With plans to involve 2,500 students in the next academic year, the “Industry Inside the Campus” initiative is more than an educational reform; it’s a beacon of opportunity. Prof. Vidyashankar sums it up well: “This is not just about employment; it’s about entrepreneurship.”
VTU’s integration of industry within its academic framework promises to be a game-changer, providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a competitive world, and perhaps change it for the better.
